L. Ryan Broddrick, Executive Director
L. Ryan Broddrick became NCWA's 4th Executive Director in September 2007. In this new role, he will aggressively pursue NCWA's mission- to promote the economic, social and environmental viability of Northern California by enhancing and preserving the water rights, supplies, and water quality in Northern California. Ryan looks forward to working with elected officials and water users in the region to advance water management opportunities. His goal is to help local entities implement the Integrated Regional Water Management Plan for the Sacramento Valley (IRWMP) to assure reliable and affordable water supplies for the region-both now and into the future.
L. Ryan Broddrick was appointed Director of the Department of Fish and Game by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in January of 2004. Ryan has extensive experience in conservation and resource management with more than 20 years of experience in the department and more than 30 years of experience with resource conservation issues. He has a comprehensive knowledge of the issues facing California's natural resources and is committed to ensuring working landscapes are recognized and maintained for their contribution to biodiversity, conservation of wildlife resources, and quality of life.
Ryan's career with the Department of Fish and Game began in 1981 as a game warden and progressed through a variety of positions before his appointment as Chief Deputy Director in 1997. He left the department in 2001 to join the Western Regional Office of Ducks Unlimited as the director of conservation policy. Prior to joining the Department, Ryan was an environmental scientist with Raymond Vail Associates and worked for the California Solid Waste Management Board. He also served as a member of the Bay Delta Advisory Committee where he chaired subcommittees on ecosystem restoration and working landscapes.
As the Director, Ryan served as a member of the Wildlife Conservation Board, the Delta Protection Commission, the Coachella Valley Mountains Conservancy, the Colorado River Board of California, the California Bay-Delta Authority, the Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission, the Pacific Fishery Management Council, the Klamath Fishery Management Council, the Quantification Settlement Agreement Joint Powers Authority and the Santa Monica Bay Restoration Commission.
Ryan holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California, Davis and lives in Gold River with his wife of 30 years and has two grown children.
